LoginMSC Virtuosa’s namesake comes from the word virtuoso, meaning someone highly skilled in any field of activity, and so MSC Virtuosa was named to pay homage to the skill and expertise of the MSC Cruises architects and shipyard partners at Les Chantiers de l’Atlantique who designed and built this innovative class of ships. This new cruise ship is one of the two largest in MSC Cruises’ fleet, along with her sister ship MSC Grandiosa, boasting an impressive array of guest features all coming together in perfect harmony to deliver the ultimate cruise holiday experience.
Second time on Virtuosa, third with MSC. Has a great time in general. Canaries not the most exciting place to visit in a cruise but Madeira, Vigo and Lisbon great. Ship as beautiful as ever. Crowded as might be expected in August but could usually find a quiet spot and if not we liked sitting on balcony. Staff great, especially bar serving team. Food in buffet high quality and not that busy if you chose your times carefully. Main restaurant to our liking - quick but that suited us. Tried one sushi speciality restaurant and was high quality and cheap especially as drinks included in package. That Drinks package good value - we had premium and had two types of real. Champagne and treat to get Italian cappuccinos. Room adequate for four of us and kept very tidy and clean. Entertainment was varied and high quality, speciality shows as good as ever. Downsides - our dining was 9:30 which was too late and they couldn’t change but wr always got a walk in. Wristbands only half worked. Sun loungers are an issue (and many people unreasonable) - I can see problems with many solutions but would be better for all if so many not left unused. Buffet would work better if used properly with queuing at each station not one long queue - needs again more staff intervention.
There is a lot of negativity re MSc cruises on this site. Having cruised 5 times with them i have shared some concerns that have been expressed but always thought they were pretty biased. I’ve just come of a 7 day cruise of Spain and France and things are improving in all areas. Here is a quick summary. Embarking at Southampton - simple and on the ship within 30 minutes. Ship - is bright and modern. Everything appears new and well maintained. Room - good size and we had a large balcony. Staff - we’re magnificent. From stateroom to bar and restaurant they were all friendly and efficient Bars - No complaints. Master of the seas was always busy but staff dealt with queues well. Food - in MDR we had a couple of meals not quite right that were immediately sorted. Buffet was excellent. We also ate in Hola speciality restaurant which was first class Entertainment - if the reaction from the audience is a guide then no problems here. The theatre shows especially Dirty Dancing were excellent. The parties in the main strip were loud but the crowd loved it. White night was fabulous. In summary MSc really are getting their act together for uk customers. They offer fantastic value for money and are serious competitors for the large US companies.
