It was our 11th cruise to the Royal Caribbean. My husband and I love to spend our birthdays on a cruise. We were there from May 9 to 16 and it was my birthday on May 14! Everything was very good - our room attendant decorated our cabin, in the restaurant at our table our very nice and friendly waiter Michael congratulated me on my birthday! It was very nice!! Thank you very much! But then I noticed that I lost a gold chain with a key chain with stones, which is very dear to me as a memory. My husband gave it to me more than 10 years ago and I love it very much. I wore it as a strap for a small Tiffany handbag. I remembered the last time I saw her on the first evening in the casino... My husband and I went to the Front Desk and got to the very attentive Senior Guest Service Officer Melqui Espinoza. He listened carefully to our story, we talked and talked to him several times... And he brought us our lost thing and we were happy! I said today is my birthday! He asked for permission to congratulate and hugs me on this day! And the next morning we received a bottle of wine and strawberries in chocolate in honor of my birthday!!! Guys! Thank you all very much for a great vacation, despite the fact that we didn't get to the island because of the rain.. Everything was fine! And we have already booked a cruise from September 14 to 21 for my husband's birthday!
Traveled with 10 adults in our group and I felt like I was on a Disney cruise. Overall, we had a very nice time together. There were a few things that I wish were different. 1). The ship was packed with children and teens. This ship caters mostly to small children & teens. There were no adult spaces to go and relax away from the screaming kids. Even the Solarium had kids in it. 2). The ship seemed very crowded for being so large as all the spaces were cut in half to accommodate the split upper deck. There were always crowds around the pool deck bars and the area was a tight squeeze near them. The pools were pretty small and packed with kids all day long even though they had their own kiddie pools. There needs to be an adult only swimming pool on the ship. Not just the hot tub sized "pool" in the Solarium where all you can do is sit across from other people and stare at each other. Adults without children like to swim too! 3). The 1:00 AM kids' curfew is way too late and not enforced by anyone anyhow. Kids should be in bed by 10:30 so adults that are looking for peace can enjoy the ship, clubs & music without kids taking over the spaces and running thru the halls and decks screaming unsupervised by their parents. 4). Central Park was my favorite spot on the ship, but even that turned into a perpetual rubber duck hunting party. Children & their parents were combing thru all the beautiful plants day and night like it was their job to find a rubber duck hidden. I wish this area was off limits for these duck hunts as it became very intrusive to have kids climbing all around you as you were trying to relax and with flashlights at night! 5.) People were vaping all over the ship, not just in the smoking area. Crew members would walk right by them and not ask them to go to the smoking area, so we all had to endure the smell. 6.) All the music on the ship was very loud. You would need to shout at the person next to you if you wanted to talk. The bands were excellent; they just needed to turn the volume down. I don't think I would go on Symphony again as it was just too big and crowded. I enjoy the smaller ships more.
We have sailed other Oasis class ships, but this one was the largest thus far for us. And newest. Arrival at Cape Liberty. The road into the port was backed up for 1.5 miles. Hardly moving. After sitting in our Uber car for about 20 minutes, and now within one mile, we decided to walk the rest of the way. We weren't alone. I'm guessing we got to the porters before some of the cars in the line. What a mess. What is going on there. Dropped luggage off, went through security, and to a check-in agent--though way beyond our chosen arrival time at that point. We learned that we will leave more time for our ride to the port next time (none scheduled at this point). It was the worst we (and others we spoke with) have experienced at this port ever (out of maybe 10 times since 2010). Stopped by our ocean view balcony cabin and picked up our SeaPass cards, and dropped off our carry-on bags. I love this cabin style on the, say, 2012 and newer ships I've sailed. Lots of great features. Safe and refrigerator. Bathroom has a nightlight, soap/shampoo combo in a dispenser in the shower. You can ask for soap. Sufficient shelves in the bathroom to store our stuff. The bed was by the slider, and there was a very large and deep couch across from the desk/dresser, between 2 storage closets. One closet had two bars for hanging clothes; the other had hanging area and shelves, along with a safe, and drawers below. We usually bring about 10 hangers, and I'm glad we did. The dresser had lots of drawers. Sufficient space to store all our stuff. The balcony was nice and deep with 2 recliner chairs that they zip-tied so you could not recline them. What!? At least make the zip tie have some play to be able to recline one notch. 2 foot stools for the chairs and a small table too. Interesting, and I have not noticed if this is on other ships, but there is a plastic tab against the balcony glass that gives you privacy from your neighbors; you can't see their reflection in the balcony glass. Liked that. I will say I find the zip-tie thing annoying. It seemed both our neighbors had different chairs--those that do not recline. TV had a map and some other RC channels, and what seemed like perpetual unavailable channels--except sports and news. Occasionally other channels came in. The water pressure in the shower was not good and the last morning it was barely more than a trickle sometimes. Cruise Compass is now digital unless you ask your cabin steward for paper copies. The elevators do not have what is on each floor listed above the doors anymore--just a picture for pool deck, central park, etc. So know where you're going before you get in the elevator. Popped up to Windjammer for a quick bite. Now I notice. A lot of kids. Way more than I expected to see on a during-the-schoolyear cruise. I later asked how many and was told between 1,200 and 1,300 kids on this sailing. One employee mentioned that there always seem to be a lot cruising from Cape Liberty. Good to know. I mean, on a Bermuda cruise in the summer I expect a lot of kids. But this was a surprise to us, and also to some other people we met during the cruise. Not that I don't like kids; I mean, I was one, had one, and have friends and relatives with kids I love. But our neighbors had too-frequently running, jumping and crying kids. We wandered to the Crown lounge--and what an awesome Melitta coffee machine. Enjoyed many cappuccinos here and an occasional snack. A lot of people hung out here for happy hour; we'd pop in to see what was there and be on our way. Very nice crew who chatted with guests. The lounge on this ship is dark with no windows. At the Top Tier party we learned that about half the ship were C&A members--so about half were new cruisers. 495 diamond level, fewer D+, and 60ish were Pinnacle. You get a glass of sparkling or mimosa; that's about it these days at the Top Tier party. Food. There is a seafood buffet on embarkation day at lunch! It was great. Buffet stayed open later than 3 for later arrivers like us. There was always an abundance of good food here and we always found things we liked. For dinner we chose early dining since My Time (which would be preferred) is 6:45 at the earliest, which is too late for us. The food was good as were our servers. There was a mess-up with our table assignment and I'm not sure how this other couple ended up at our 2-top table. It did get straightened out. . . HOWEVER, the night they sat at our table, I'm looking at our account on the app and the drinks they ordered were charged against our Diamond coupons. Oh no. . . just no. Visited Guest Services where we were shown a receipt and told "these are the drinks you had. . . " wine and a soda, which we did NOT have. Big pain to straighten out and our servers agreed that we did not order any drinks. Just too many things that had to be straightened out at the beginning. And I really did not like the insinuation that 1) it was our fault -- I didn't remember the drinks (that I did not order) and 2) that we had arrived late to dinner so our table was given away. We were not late. Fortunately the frustrations with this were over after day 2. We ate breakfast once at Johnny Rockets; it was ok. Hot dog at Boardwalk is ok; the potato salad and cole slaw very good. We ate at Chops and it was good for the most part; one filet mignon I would have sent back if I was at home as it was not tender, but I was already almost full. Toward the end of the cruise they were offering buy one get one so it must not have been busy. We like Solarium Bistro; a buffet that isn't quite as crowded as Windjammer. We have lowered our expectations on cruises food-wise, but we were not disappointed, and I think if you don't find food you like on this ship, maybe you're too picky!
