I had a lovely 9 night cruise on Jewel in April 2025, sailing the Western Caribbean. Embarkation at the almost brand new terminal in Galveston was so easy -about 8 minutes from arrival and dropping off my bags till I was onboard. I had my my buffet lunch at the Windjammer cafe and looked around the ship until my cabin was ready which was very promptly around 1pm. I had cabin with a lovely balcony. The cabin was spacious (I was cruising solo this time) and plenty of room in the bathroom. I was pleased there was no dreaded shower curtain either - proper sliding doors so there was no risk of getting water on the floor like on some other ships (Brilliance last year had a shower curtain which could be a problem). Although I was cruising solo I found the passengers and crew very friendly. There was lots of activities onboard as detailed in the Royal app (or, if you asked your cabin attendant, in a printed version) and I really enjoyed the trivia and the evening shows. The Solarium was lovely to sit by the pool in after a swim and generally less crowded than the main pool area. And it had simply delicious pizzas too! The food in the Windjammer buffet was varied and on average pretty good and plentiful and I enjoyed eating there most days. I ate in the main dining room a couple of nights and the service was good as was the food. Although Jewel is an older ship it has a lot of charm and the crew are wonderful. The Schooner Bar on deck 6 is simply lovely with its wooden, nautical theme and is a great place to spend time doing trivia, chatting with friends or just relaxing looking out to sea. The Safari Club behind the Schooner Bar however is very dowdy and rather unappealing and underutilised to be honest. The Centrum on deck 4 has a lot of music, exercise classes and fun activities in the evening. The crew work really hard to make this and all activites fun to be part of. I do think however putting the guest services and shore excursion desks right near the Centrum is a huge mistake as you can hardly hear yourself think when there are activities going on and you are trying to communicate with crew on those desks. Our ports were meant to be 5 in total - Yucatan (Progresso), Cozumel, Costa Maya, Belize and Roatan Honduras, but a few days before the cruise we were emailed to say that Yucatan had to be cancelled as the winds were too high for the ship to dock and we would spend two days at Cozumel instead. This was disappointing as I had booked to go to Chichen Itza from Yucatan so had to cancel that. Although you can do it from Progresso it's a much longer travel time which did not appeal at all. Overall I really enjoyed this cruise and thought Jewel was a lovely ship to sail on.
