Ship Reviews

Could have given a higher rating, but due to low level of water in river, original schedule could not be maintained. This is not Amawaterways fault and they did a very good job in adjusting the cruise as necessary. We still had a great time. Service was excellent at all categories. All employees, at all levels were very helpful, very friendly and very competent. The food and wine service crew were exceptional. Housekeeping kept our cabin clean and straight at all times! The cruise manager had to really hustle to maintain the high level of entertainment and excursions. Especially since there was a lot of rescheduling required, again due to the water level. I found the food generally very tasty. Though not all items were my favorites. Wine was good. Quanities of both were in abundance. I really had to fight from eating to much too often. Excursions were very good, though at times they seemed a bit crowded. The bus rides were also long on occasion. The first day the bus rides were really long, but that was due mostly to the low water level and the required adjustment in the schedule. Overall, I had a great time, but I feel that I missed some of the best moments the cruise had to offer. The low water level is to blame there.

Overall, this cruise was everything I wanted in riverboat cruising experience. The food, service, and excursions were top notch. I was surprised by some of the places the ship docked -- I envisioned the stops to be closer to towns. Although the food served at meals was delicous with unique menus I felt like the snacks between meals need improvement. All snacks offered were sweets; an afternoon salty or nutritional snack would have been nice. I loved our cruise director, Andre, but felt he may have oversold the idea of changing excursions. While most excursions were easy to change there are some where busses fill up or tickets need to be bought. I feel like this should have been presented to the passengers instead of "you want to change, 'no problem'" when there were situations where it could be a problem. I would absolutely travel with Ama again and highly recommend this itinerary. Final shoutout -- pre-cruise in Zurich and Lucerne were great.

Our first small boat and river cruise. Lived the intimate feel. The food was superior to big boat food. The region matching wine was a nice touch. We closed the lounge most nights. We met a couple and a single and ended up spending most of our time with them. The bar staff were friendly and cooperative. Liked the ease of shore access. The included excursions were acceptable and the local guides knowledgeable, friendly , and accommodating. Sadie, the coordinator, was great. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful in planning extra activities. Loved the section of the river with all the castles. Colmar was our favorite city. We only wish we had gone a week sooner so we could have seen more Christmas makets. The few we did see were nice. The Crans-Montana Ski resort bar tragedy was horrible and canceled many events after it occurred. Seeing the shore constantly was nice and allowed us to see more if the countries we traveled to and through.
