My wife and I recently completed a 7-night Paris-to-Paris cruise on the S.S. Joie de Vivre along the Seine, and overall it was a fabulous experience. Having taken many ocean cruises over the years, this was our first river cruise, and we came away extremely impressed. The ship itself is stunningly beautiful while also being thoughtfully designed and very practical for river cruising. From start to finish, the voyage ran seamlessly, with everything operating smoothly and on schedule. A special mention must go to Tania, the cruise director, who was truly exceptional. She had an incredible ability to make every guest feel personally welcomed and valued while simultaneously managing countless details with professionalism, warmth, and a wonderful sense of humour. The ports of call were diverse, memorable, and very well chosen. The shore excursions, guides, and transportation arranged by Uniworld were consistently first-class. The itinerary was particularly well curated, striking an excellent balance between sightseeing and relaxation, without ever feeling rushed. Tours departed on time and were impressively organized throughout the trip. The onboard dining was very good overall, with only a few minor disappointments. In a country celebrated for its bakeries and cuisine, the use of frozen French fries and bread occasionally stood out. Fresh bread baked onboard or sourced daily from local bakeries would have elevated the culinary experience even further. What truly made the cruise special, however, was the staff. Every crew member we encountered was attentive, professional, friendly, and exceptionally well trained. Their dedication and service added enormously to the enjoyment of the voyage. Embarkation and disembarkation were effortless, and luggage handling by the crew was handled efficiently and professionally. The onboard entertainment was also excellent, featuring talented local singers and bands in the evenings, along with dancing and lively performances that added a wonderful cultural touch to the cruise experience. Overall, this was an outstanding introduction to river cruising, and we would not hesitate to sail again with Uniworld .
Simply Fabulous! Traveling solo for the first time. This was the perfect cruise for that. It was casual, comfortable. People were all friendly, open seating at all meals made it easy. Every local guide was wonderful. Excursions all ran smoothly. I LOVE that there was free launderette. I have a thing about laundry. Downside, fitness area was too small and did not have adequate equipment. Cabin was comfortable. Good bed. Staff was all friendly and helpful. I found the decor (French 1900’s) a bit over the top gaudy but I know that is their thing. Food was good. Buffet breakfast and lunch and always a Made to Order option available, too. They were generous with wine and liquor at cocktail hour and dinner. Not much “entertainment” but I did not expect much. Tired from touring and happy to cocoon in cabin. Pre-cruise hotel, Hotel de Louvre was super. Great location. They have “private cabins” AKA large private bathrooms so you can freshen up and get organized if you arrive early in the AM before your room is ready. That was a fantastic perq. Loved this itinerary of RT Paris. Included Monet’s place and a day at Normandy. Both had been on my Wish List.
There were plenty of positives about this trip. The tours and tour guides were excellent. The onboard cruise director was fun, enthusiastic and give us good information about up coming ports. We had a deluxe balcony suite. It was a little small but very nicely decorated. The bedding was soft and having a king bed on a ship is always a plus. The bathroom was nice size. Heated flood and heated towel rack made for enjoyable mornings after a wake up shower. The two different entertains that came on board were outstanding. The 70's party music was a lot of fun and had great participation. The bar service was OK, but not as good as we have had on other Uniworld cruises. The food was good and the selection was nice. The service for the buffet at breakfast and lunch was very good. The only real negative from the trip was the dinner service in the dinning room. It was bad every night. We sat in different sections and the results were the same POOR. It was a bad combination of orders not being delivered, dirty dishes left in front of someone for 15-20 minutes, forgetting to bring something that was ordered. Another disturbing factor is that the ship was not even 100% full. This is just not like Uniworld, not sure what the issue was but I am sure they will correct it.

Burgundy has the highest number of unique AOC designations of any region in France, in large part due to the highly specific attention paid to the terroir of its vineyards. The most popular varietals grown here? Pinot noir and chardonnay.
While you’ll have no trouble finding truly excellent red and white wines produced from the syrah, cabernet sauvignon, and grenache (both noir and blanc) growing in the vineyards of Provence, another drink reigns supreme here. Ranging from bright pink to a subtle blush, rosé is as good as water in this region. During the warmer months, a chilled glass of rosé becomes the ultimate summer drink.
